In recent years we have commemorated the ordination of Nicholas Ferrar as a deacon on Trinity Sunday, 4 June 1626. This year we shall again join with Nicholas’s old college, Clare College, Cambridge, to celebrate this event with a service of Choral Evensong, followed by dinner in the college Hall, on the evening of Sunday 9 June.

Nicholas Ferrar was ordained a deacon in Westminster Abbey on Trinity Sunday, 4 June 1626, by William Laud, then Bishop of St Davids and acting-Dean of the Abbey (and later Archbishop of Canterbury who ended his life on the scaffold).

Clare College, Cambridge (of which college Nicholas was an undergraduate and subsequently a fellow) have kindly invited us to a service of Choral Evensong on Sunday 9 June 2013, at 6pm. The preacher will be the Very Revd Dr Frances Ward, Dean of St St Edmundsbury. Dr Ward is a member of the committee of the Friends, and is also the Chair of the Little Gidding Trust (which owns and administers Ferrar House and the other properties to the north-west of Little Gidding church).

There will be a £10 charge for dinner, which we expect to be payable by cheque on the night, but we need to know numbers so that Clare can make appropriate preparations. Please email chair@littlegidding.org.uk with names and numbers if you would like to come to dinner. (No reservation is needed for the service itself.)
